PROFESSIONAL COACHING

“Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

Why Professional Coaching

I find it very interesting when I am asked, “why professional coaching?” I don’t ever recall anyone asking an athlete or a performer why they had a coach. We all know that to be the very best in your field you need coaching. Can you imagine an Olympic athlete planning to go for gold and deciding he didn’t really need a coach and could go it alone? Opera singers have vocal coaches, actors have acting coaches; everyone at the top of their field knows that a coach brings them to the next level.

Why the question? Maybe it’s a lack of understanding of what a coach can do for someone. There is no one answer, as coaching a person can be as individual as the person themselves.

The nature of coaching is such that it is tailored to the desires of the individual. The professional coach has a wide array of tools to use. But as with any craftsman, the appropriate tool must be chosen to fit the job.

Awareness, Choice and Trust

In our approach to coaching we use tools to address three key areas – awareness, choice and trust.

Lack of awareness can truly be the Achilles heel of anyone.

Everyone has their blind spots and it and is human nature to avoid the less pleasant sides of our personas. It is even a sadder situation when someone is unaware of a powerful skill they possess.

Such areas are easily explored with the appropriate tools. Foundational to any development of awareness is uncovering an individual’s core values. This exercise in itself can be life changing; at minimum, having a prioritized list of values assists in decision making.

Making choices is what life is all about. A professional coach can be a powerful aid in making the right choices at the right time.

Again it is not the coach’s job to make the choice, but rather to ensure the process of getting to the choice has covered all options and impacts.

The final piece is trust. Without trust, it is not easy to make things happen. Trust in oneself is an offshoot of awareness and confidence. Trust trumps fear and enables progress.
